Not really enough going on right now to do a full Roundup, but I wanted to tough on this one. The Cleveland Plain Dealer (click here for the article) is reporting that the Cleveland Indians will recall both Anthony Reyes and Brendan Donnelly, with Reyes getting the start on Friday. It is expected that Tom Mastny will go to Triple A and Matt Ginter to the DL to make room.
Reyes was acquired from the Cardinals, where he really hadn’t gotten the opportunity in recent years to show his talents, and when he did, he struggled. Since the trade, however, he has gone 2-0 in 2 starts, while posting a 2.77 ERA. He actually wasn’t pitching poorly for the Cardinals Triple A affiliate, having gone 2-3 in 11 starts with a 3.25 ERA.
His problem was at the major league level. In 22 appearances last season (20 starts), he was 2-14 with a 6.04 ERA. Still, in deeper formats, especially keeper leagues, he certainly is worth considering. He has the potential to put things together and it’s possible that a change of scenery was just what he needed. I know I’ll be watching his upcoming start very carefully.
