Injury Update: Albert Pujols Fractures Wrist

Updated at 2:30 PM
A few quotes courtesy of Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch (click here for the full article):

“Pujols had an MRI and followup X-Rays this morning with the Cardinals’ team physicians. A non-displaced fracture was discovered in his left radius, a bone that makes up the forearm. Pujols’ arm will be placed in a splint, and the Cardinals expect him to be out of the lineup for four to six weeks.”

“The release said that Pujols’ shoulder is sore but, according the club, no structural damage was found ‘at this time.'”

“There is no mention of surgery being required to repair the damage, per the release.”

No matter how you cut it, fantasy owners have been left scrambling to find a replacement.  If there is any further news on the injury today, I will update this post further.

According to Ken Rosenthal (via Twitter):

“Pujols out 4 to 6 weeks with small fracture in wrist.”

Obviously, this is terrible news for fantasy owners who have to hope that the injury truly is just 4-6 weeks.  Pujols was injured yesterday in a collision at first base with Wilson Betemit.  Lance Berkman figures to come in from the outfield to see the lion’s share of the playing time at 1B, with Matt Holliday, Colby Rasmus & John Jay getting regular AB in the outfield (at least until Allen Craig can return).

We’ll have more on the situation later today.
