Morning Roundup for 8/10 (Lee & Hudson injuries and much more)

A few big news stories are sitting out there this morning:

  • According to tsn.ca (click here for the article) Carlos Lee’s broken pinkie will keep him out of action for 6-8 weeks.  He is set to undergo surgery tomorrow, with Reggie Abercrombie replacing him on the roster.  Given the fact that it’s already August 10, you certainly have to wonder if he is going to be able to help your team again this season.  I would just leave him on the bench for now, but you are certainly going to be hard pressed to find someone who can replace him in your line-up.
  • Kyle Odegard of The East Valley Tribune (click here for the article) is reporting that Orlando Hudson’s season may be over.  He had a collision at second base with Brian McCann and has “either fractured or dislocated” his wrist.  He may or may not need surgery, which could influence if he plays again this season.  How does trading Emilio Bonifacio look now?  Unlike Lee, Hudson is certainly replacable, perhaps by Bonifacio himself.  While he gives a god average, he only had 8 HR and 4 SB in 407 AB this season.
  • Troy Renck of The Denver Post (click here for the post) is reporting that Kip Wells will be the person dropped from the Rockies line-up to make room for Livan Hernandez.  No real loss here for fantasy owners.
  • According to David Boyce of The Kansas City Star (click here for the article) the Royals have traded Horacio Ramirez to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for minor league OF Paulo Orlando.  The Royals will be recalling Josh Newman to take Ramirez’ spot on the roster.  None of these players should have much fantasy appeal.
  • The Star-Telegram (click here for the article) is reporting that Tommy Hunter will not make his scheduled start on Tuesday for the Rangers.  Instead, the team will go with Scott Feldman, Luis Mendoza and Vicente Padilla in their series against the Red Sox.  Against the Red Sox, I wouldn’t use any of the Rangers pitcher’s anyways, so this certainly does not change anything.
  • The article in the Star-Telegram also updates the condition on numerous Ranger’s players:
    • Kevin Millwood had his first rehab start postponed a day because of field conditions, and could ultimately make a 2nd start before returning to the major leagues.
    • Milton Bradley is taking batting practice, but isn’t expected back in the line-up until Tuesday.  The expectations are for him to DH the rest of the way.
    • Hank Blalock “played catch and will start taking grounders at third base Tuesday”.  He’s closing in on his return, though a rehab assigment is possible.
    • Brandon Boggs “was out of the lineup Saturday because Washington didn’t want him to have to make any throws from the outfield”.
