Vazquez to the Braves

Vazquez to the Braves

Update at 11:30 PM: Dave O’Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (click here) is reporting that the White Sox will receive Tyler Flowers, Brent Lillibridge, Jon Gilmore and Santos Rodriguez in return for Vazquez & Logan.

All the details are not in yet, so I can’t fully give my opinion, but according to Ken Rosenthal of foxsports.com (click here for the article) the Atlanta Braves have acquired Javier Vazquez from the Chicago White Sox, “contingent on the players involved passing physicals; Vazquez will take his physical in Atlanta on Wednesday”.  It is expected that the deal could be officially announced either tomorrow or Thursday.

It’s possible that Boone Logan could also be going back to the Braves.  In exchange, they could receive up to 3 players, with Brent Lillibridge (INF) and Tyle Flowers (C) rumored to be included.  Also, a starting pitcher is expected to be included, though it is not Jo-Jo Reyes according to Rosenthal.

Wow, this was unexpected but like I said earlier, I can’t fully evaluate this trade until I know exactly what the White Sox are getting back in return.  As for Vazquez, the move back to the NL certainly will help a pitcher who has a ton of talent.  He is coming off a season where he posted a 4.67 ERA, but did have 200 K’s and a 1.32 WHIP.  In 2007, he had a very impressive 3.75 ERA, but the three years prior his ERA was 4.43 or worse.

Still, since 2000, he’s had at least 195 K’s in every season, even pitching 4 of those season in the AL.  The move to the NL will certainly give him a boost, though I’m not sure quite how much.  I’ll give my full opinions on the deal once the final details of the deal are announces.

  1. I was considering dropping Vasquez in my money league…but now that his is on the Braves, I’m thinking I should have him as a keeper. I currently have him at 14 dollars. My other pitching keepers are Kuroda (1), Buehrle (4), Volquez (4), Greinke (9). Yes?

  2. At $14 he seems borderline to me, even on the Braves. My guess is he’d go for right around that this year, though maybe a few $ more. How many pitchers were you considering keeping?
