Dunn traded to D-Backs

According to espn.com (click here for the article), the Cincinnati Reds have traded Adam Dunn to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Dallas Buck (P) and two players to be named later.

This trade is a clear answer to the Dodgers move to acquire Manny Ramirez.  The D-Backs were need of a big bat to fill the middle of their order, and they got one of the biggest around, as Dunn is tied for the major league lead in HR with 32.  It is unknown what role Dunn will fill in the D-Backs line-up, but he could see time at 1B and the OF.

As for the Reds, it is clear that they are trying to find out what they have in the minor leagues, so they can plan for the future.  Edwin Encarnacion & Jay Bruce figure to join Brandon Phillips as the centerpieces of the offense at this point, certainly making them more valuable.

As for Dunn’s value, it is unchanged in my opinion.  He is a pure power hitter, and I don’t think the ballpark he calls home is going to change that.  He is still worth owning in all formats.
