At this point in the week your weekly lineup is set, for better or worse, and all that is left to do is to prepare for next week. If you are looking for some immediate action, fear not as there is a full slate of baseball today with multiple DFS possibilities. Let’s take a look at three value options that could help you today. Also, keep in mind that these same players could be potential waiver wire pickups in your season long leagues.
1) Brett Anderson – SP – LA Dodgers
For position players we look to stay under $3,000 when giving value options, but for starting pitchers the threshold is bumped up to $4,000. On two pitcher sites, such as Fantasy Score, it is tough to spend up on both pitchers and still have enough money left over to put together a powerful lineup. Tonight Anderson is likely the cheapest option I would feel comfortable owning. We know the left-hander is a solid pitcher with the major knock being his health. However, in DFS that does not matter.
Their weekend outburst in Cincinnati excluded, the Giants are not a powerful offense and their home park is favorable to pitchers. So far this season Anderson is 2-1 in seven starts with a respectable 3.50 ERA. Earlier in the season he wasn’t pitching as deep into games, he is averaging just over five innings a start, so that helped to limit his wins total. The other knock against Anderson is that he doesn’t strike many batters out, 24 in 36 innings, and that has kept his average at 7.71 points per game. If you are looking to save money on your second starter tonight, then he is your guy.

2) Wellington Castillo – C – Seattle Mariners
You will be able to find out about Castillo’s trade to Seattle later in the day on RotoProfessor, but that is focused more on the outlook for the rest of the season. As far as I’m concerned Castillo is the minimum price and is now going to see a large uptick in playing time. He only has 43 at bats this season and is hitting just .163 with two home runs and five RBI. Those numbers will not get anyone excited, but in the past he has shown to be a solid offensive player. The splits are also in his favor tonight as a faces left-hander Wei-Yin Chen in Baltimore.
Fantasy Score Price: $1,600
3) Will Venable – OF – San Diego Padres
With of the additions the Padres made to their roster, you are forgiven if you totally forgot about Venable. However with Wil Myers and Yonder Alonso sidelined Venable is receiving and taking advantage of regular playing time. On the season he only has 56 at bats, and 29 of those have come in the past two weeks. In the last six games he started he has at least one hit in five of them, going 10-23. Though he hasn’t done much other than hit singles, he does have three home runs and seven RBI on the season and he is worth a look as you fill out your outfield.
