Poll: Did Jeremy Hellickson’s Opening Day Performance Make You A Believer?

Obviously it’s just one start and it came against a less than stellar offense in the Cincinnati Reds.  That said, it’s hard to argue how impressive the Phillies’ Jeremy Hellickson was:

6.0 IP, 1 R (0 ER), 3 H, 0 BB, 6 K

Just to add to the appeal he generated 8 groundball outs vs. 2 fly ball outs and threw 55 of his 79 pitches for strikes.  He also controlled Joey Votto, striking him out all three times he faced him.

Prior to the season we had dubbed Hellickson as a sleeper for those in deeper formats (click here to read) and obviously one start doesn’t make that prediction accurate.  That said, it also can’t simply be ignored either.

With that in mind, let’s get to today’s poll (and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments as well):

As long as you’re not looking for W’s, I think he’ll be solid.

He’s obviously talented. That isn’t the question. The question is, how do you ensure he faces only the Reds in 40 degree temperature for every one of his outings? It’s his inconsistency that bothers me. If he keeps the ball down he’s effective but that only happens a handful of starts a season.
