Evening Roundup (Thome, Casilla and more)

A few news and notes to go to sleep to:

  • Mark Gonzales of The Chicago Tribune (click here for the post) is reporting that Jim Thome’s absence from today’s White Sox line-up was precautionary, due to “slight soreness in his right leg”.  It doesn’t seem like he’s going to miss much time, if any, so I would just monitor the pregame line-up.  It’s certainly nothing to panic about.
  • In a separate post (click here), Gonzales notes that Dewayne Wise “suffered a strain of the right adductor muscle”.  Considering the glut the White Sox have, Wise doesn’t bring much value to begin with and has no real fantasy value.
  • The Miami Herald (click here for the article) is reporting that Alexi Casilla has been activated from the DL by the Twins, with Brian Bass being sent to Triple A.  While Casilla isn’t going to give you the same type of power, if you lost Ian Kinsler and are in a league that requires a MI, Casilla is a decent replacement.
  • In a separate article (click here), The Miami Herald notes that the Phillies have brought Pedro Feliz off the DL, with pitcher Les Walrond being sent to Triple A.  Feliz does not have much value in shallow leagues, as he is an extreme hit or miss type player.  In deeper leagues, maybe, but I would honestly avoid him.
  • In yet another article (click here), The Miami Herald notes that the Rockies have brought Ryan Speier up from Triple A, putting Matt Herges on the DL with “lower back stiffness”.  The move has no impact on fantasy owners.
  • The Kansas City Royals put Luke Hochevar on the DL with a “deep bruise above his right rib cage”, recalling Josh Newman to replace him, according to Bob Dutton of The Kansas City Star (click here for the article).  No real value here at all.
