Maine needs surgery

According to Bart Hubbuch of The New York Post (click here for the post), following yesterday’s awful start, the Mets John Maine said “that he expects to have arthroscopic surgery after the season to remove a painful bone spur in his right shoulder”.  He says that he is expecting to pitch through the problem the rest of the way, however.

This can’t be considered good news for fantasy owners, as there certainly is the potential that he gets shut down at any time.  With the Mets in a pennant race, if they don’t think that he is going to be helpful to them, they are going to have to make a move, as every win is so vital.  I’d make sure you have a suitable replacement for him, as well as using him at your own risk.  Who knows how the injury is going to affect him and his results moving forward, so I know I’m preparing for the worst.
