Hitter of the Week:
Sometimes it is not just a big power week that separates yourself from the rest of the pack. How often do we see a player reach double-digits in runs scored? Not very often, so when Joey Votto scored 11 runs last week (2 ahead of his closest competitor), it gave him an edge. Throw in 1 HR and 8 RBI and things are getting better. Then, you factor in going 14-25 (a .560 average) and this becomes an easy decision.
Runner’s Up:
- Alex Rodriguez – New York Yankees – .350 (7-20), 3 HR, 8 RBI, 6 R, 3 SB
- Billy Butler – Kansas City Royals – .423 (11-26), 3 HR, 9 RBI, 6 R, 0 SB
- Ryan Howard – Philadelphia Phillies – .375 (12-32), 2 HR, 14 RBI, 5 R, 0 SB
- Marlon Byrd – Texas Rangers – .320 (8-25), 3 HR, 11 RBI, 7 R, 0 SB
Zack Greinke has been among the best pitchers in baseball all year long (this is the fourth time he’s getting this award), so it is fitting that he gets honored in the next to last week of the season. He went 13 innings, posting an ERA of 0.69, a WHIP of 1.08 and striking out 13 en route to a pair of victories. Is there really anything that has yet to be said about his tremendous season?
- Carlos Zambrano - Chicago Cubs – 1 W, 9.0 IP, 0.00 ERA, 0.33 WHIP, 8 K
- Mariano Rivera – New York Yankees – 4 SV, 4.0 IP, 0.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 5 K
- CC Sabathia – New York Yankees – 1 W, 7.0 IP, 0.00 ERA, 0.43 WHIP, 8 K
- Roy Halladay – Toronto Blue Jays – 1 W, 9.0 IP, 0.00 ERA, 0.78 WHIP, 9 K
