Morning Roundup (Kershaw, Snider, Olivo & more)
A few notes to kick off the holiday weekend:
- According to Tony Jackson of The Los Angeles Daily News (click here for the post) is reporting that Clayton Kershaw was the man sent to the minors to clear space for Scott Elbert, though his stay away from the team is not expected to be long. It is expected that he returns on Tuesday, after the roster expansion, where he could slide right back into the rotation. We talked about Kershaw in today’s Around the Majors so check that out for my thoughts on him.
- According to Ken Rosenthal of foxsports.com (click here for the article) the Blue Jays have traded Matt Stairs to the Phillies in exchange for a minor leaguer. Stairs will probably just provide help off the bench, giving him very little fantasy value. The bigger news is that the Blue Jays recalled Travis Snider to take Stairs’ place on the roster. I’ll give me full thoughts on Snider later today, but he is a top talent and is not being called up to sit on the bench.
- Don’t look for Miguel Olivo to return to the Royals next season, according to Sam Mellinger of The Kansas City Star (click here for the post). According to Mellinger, “This frustration lies in what he sees as no communication with manager Trey Hillman and especially a lack of playing time”. Olivo is a potentially good bat with regular playing time, so see where he lands next season. If he looks to be the starter, he’ll certainly have value in leagues that require 2 catchers.
- Despite being scratched from his start, the Rangers will not place Vincente Padilla on the DL according to Jeff Wilson of The Star-Telegram (click here for the article).
- Wilson is also reporting that Gerald Laird was given his second straight day off due to a “tight right hamstring”. I’d monitor the situation at this point, but have him on your bench until he proves he can return.
- Joe McDonald of The Providence Journal (click here for the article) is reporting that Sean Casey is “feeling better after a bout of neck stiffness”. He is not expected to go on the DL, but is not quite ready to return. No big deal, honestly.
