Morning Roundup (Weaver, Hamels & more)
A few minor notes to kick off the morning:
- Over on the football site we have posted a Quick Hit looking at Ted Ginn Jr. To check that out, click here.
- Jered Weaver’s next start will now be on Monday against the Yankees, instead of tomorrow vs. the White Sox, due to one of the weirdest injuries I’ve heard of. Weaver apparently “sustained cuts on the tips of the middle and ring fingers of his pitching hand while pushing himself up off the Comerica Park dugout bench during Tuesday night’s game against the Tigers” according to Mike DiGiovanna of The Los Angeles Times (click here for the article). No stitches were necessary and Dustin Moseley will start in his place. Weaver’s value remains the same, honestly, so if you were going to use him against Chicago I’d use him against the Yankees.
- Joe Mcdonald of The Providence Journal (click here for the article) is reporting that “a stiff back” continues to keep Kevin Youkilis out of the Red Sox line-up. Terry Francona was quoted as saying, “He’s here but he’s not going to play”. Just keep him on your bench until he is healthy enough to return.
- With Cole Hamels officially taking the start on Sunday against Johan Santana and the Mets, it is unknown when Kyle Kendrick will return to the rotation according to Todd Zolecki of The Philadelphia Enquirer (click here for the article). Zolecki says that’s it’s possible Kendrick doesn’t return to the rotation, but who knows. He really isn’t a viable fantasy option at this point anyways.
- According to The Star-Telegram (click here for the article), Jarrod Saltalamacchia will see Dr. James Andrews to get “a second opinion on his strained right elbow”. If he hears the same thing as he did, he’s going to look to play winter ball. Either way, it appears his season is over so it’s safe to move on in non-keeper leagues.
- In the same article, The Star-Telegram is reporting that despite being skipped, Scott Feldman is still in the Rangers rotation and could start next weekend in Oakland. Could be a good match-up, but not one that I’d use.
