I guess Carlos Santana improved by leaps and bounds defensively over the past week. It was eight days ago that the Indians came out and said Santana needed to improve behind the plate before he was going to be recalled (click here for our post on it).
According to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer (click here for the article), citing a report from ESPN Deportes, Santana is set to join the Indians for tonight’s game. There is just no questioning his bat, hitting .316 with 13 HR, 51 RBI, 39 R and 6 SB in 196 AB at Triple-A this season. The problem was always his defense, more specifically his ability to throw runners out, but the Indians appear willing to overlook that at this point.
He’s immediately a Top 10 catcher, with the potential to be a Top 5, for the rest of the season. He’s a must own in all formats.
