The Texas Rangers continue adding pieces acquiring Christian Guzman for minor league pitchers Tanner Roark and Ryan Tatusko according to Anthony Andro of the Star-Telegram (click here for the post).
The Rangers Get
With Ian Kinsler out for a couple of weeks the team decided that they needed to get some depth in the middle infield. He’ll likely play everyday for the time being, then take on a utility role once Kinsler is activated.
Guzman holds minimal fantasy appeal, as he has little power and speed at this point in his career. He does join a significantly better lineup, so if you need a short-term option in the deepest of formats you can take the flier for average and a few runs scored. Otherwise, don’t bother.
The Nationals Get
Roark is a 23-year old righty who has spent the entire season at Double-A. In 20 appearances (17 starts) he’s gone 10-5 with a 4.20 ERA and 75 K in 105.0 IP.
Tatusko is a 25-year old righty who also has spent the entire season at Double-A. In 24 appearances (13 starts) he’s gone 9-2 with a 2.97 ERA and 58 K in 100.0 IP.
Neither were ranked in the Rangers Top 10 prospects prior to 2010.
