According to Larry LaRue of The News Tribune (click here for the post), Adrian Beltre has “a torn ligament in his left thumb” and is in need of surgery that will take 4-5 months to recover from. He apparently sustained the injury last season, but it was not found until December and by then he couldn’t have the surgery and be ready for the start of the season. At the same time, he’ll also have surgery “n his left shoulder to cleanup a painful bone spur”.
It sounds like the Mariners may shut Beltre down any day now, as the earlier he has the surgery the more likely it is that he will be ready for next season. If you own him in your league you had better make sure that you have a capable backup on your bench, just in case.
