Evening Roundup for 8/6 (Chamberlain, Hernandez and more)

A few odds and ends hanging out there I want to touch on:

  • We have gotten confirmation that Joba Chamberlain is going to the DL, thanks to Kat O’Brien of New York Newsday (click here for the article).  However, there is still no word as to the actual injury or how long he could be out.  The longer the mystery drags on, the more worried owners are going to become.  Just sit tight for now and hope for the best.
  • The A’s will push Sean Gallagher’s next start back a few days, but he is not going on the DL, according to Sussan Slusser of The San Francisco Chronicle (click here for the post).  An MRI “showed inflammation” in his right shoulder.  Originally, it was thought he would head to the DL, allowing the team to activate Gio Gonzalez for tonight’s start, but they instead opted to send Gregorio Petit (infielder) to the minors to clear a spot on the roster.
  • Troy E. Renck of The Denver Post (click here for the article), the Rockies have officially acquired Livan Hernandez after they agreed with the Twins to pick “up the rest of his contract without giving up a player”.  Seems like a low risk move to me, considering it will simply cost them cash.  He definitely helps to stabilize the rotation, but consider the way he has pitched this season plus the thin air of Denver, I certainly wouldn’t look at him in fantasy leagues.
  • Chico Harlan of The Washington Post (click here for the post) is reporting that he was told by Jim Bowden, the Nationals GM, that “Elijah Dukes will be headed to the disabled list”.  The move is expected to come in the next day or two.
