Evening Roundup (Jones, Flores, Sheets & Cueto)

Wow, there’s some news and it is not September callup related:

  • Chipper Jones was out of the line-up thanks to “injuring his right knee while hitting during batting practice” according to Carroll Rogers of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (click here for the article).  It is unknown how bad the injury is or how much time he may miss but at this point you’re better off moving him to your bench until we receive a little bit more information.
  • Chico Harlan of The Washington Post (click here for the post) is reporting that Nationals catcher Jesus Flores was injured in a collision at home plate with Chase Utley, who had tried to steal home.  Flores was taken off on a stretcher, but early word is that x-rays “showed no obvious signs of fracture” and is being called a sprained ankle for now.  He is set to undergo an MRI as well.  Keep your fingers crossed that the injury is not anything more serious, but as it is if you are in a 2-catcher league you have to move him to your bench.
  • According to Tom Haudricourt of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (click here for the post), he “talked with Ben Sheets this afternoon and he said he expects to take his next turn in the rotation”.  That’s certainly good news for owners who certainly need a healthy Sheets down the stretch.  He pitched great yesterday prior to leaving the game, so I would keep him active at this point.
  • John Fay of The Cincinnati Enquirer (click here for the post) is reporting that Johnny Cueto is set to return to the Reds rotation on Saturday against the Cubs, after throwing on the side on Wednesday.  It’s a good sign, but not a start I would use him for.
