The New England Patriots traded QB Jacoby Brissett to the Indianapolis Colts for WR Phillip Dorsett
The Colts Fallout:
While it’s impossible to think Brissett will be ready to start in Week 1, the fact that Indianapolis went out to acquire him could indicate that they have concerns Andrew Luck will miss multiple games (or have trouble staying healthy for the remaining 15 ). Brissett, a 2016 third round draft pick, brings more upside then Scott Tolzien or Stephen Morris as he played well in three early games of ’16 (34-for-55, 400 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT). New Orleans Saints WR Willie Snead has been suspended 3 games due to violating the league’s substance abuse policy
Obviously with Brandin Cooks now in New England, the already thinned out receiving corps takes a hit. It’s not like they are void of weapons, with Michael Thomas taking center stage and players like Ted Ginn, Brandon Coleman and Coby Fleener holding a little bit more upside in the short-term (though it doesn’t make them dependable options).
More likely is the Saints going with a more focused running based attack (something that was always possible). With Mark Ingram, Adrian Peterson and Alvin Kamara forming a three-headed monster, the team could simply try to control the football and give all three significant opportunities. Read more
