Week 11 Rankings (2016): Top 20 Tight Ends

by Eric Stashin (aka The Rotoprofessor)

Tight end is one of the most frustrating positions to choose on a weekly basis, isn’t it?  Just when you think you have it figured out, and found that player who has emerged, he disappears and tosses up a dud.  It shows just how valuable those top tier players are, where you can pencil them into your lineup and ride them week in and week out.  With that in mind, who would we be willing to utilize this week?  Let’s take a look:

  1. Delanie Walker – Tennessee Titans – at Indianapolis
  2. Jordan Reed – Washington Redskins – vs. Green Bay
  3. Greg Olsen – Carolina Panthers – vs. New Orleans
  4. Tyler Eifert – Cincinnati Bengals – vs. Buffalo
  5. Martellus Bennett – New England Patriots – at San Francisco
  6. Cameron Brate – Tampa Bay Buccaneers – at Kansas City
  7. Eric Ebron – Detroit Lions – vs. Jacksonville
  8. Jimmy Graham – Seattle Seahawks – vs. Philadelphia
  9. Zach Miller – Chicago Bears – at New York Giants
  10. Travis Kelce – Kansas City Chiefs – vs. Tampa Bay
  11. Zach Ertz – Philadelphia Eagles – at Seattle
  12. Julius Thomas – Jacksonville Jaguars – at Detroit
  13. C.J. Fiedorowicz – Houston Texans – at Oakland
  14. Jason Witten – Dallas Cowboys – vs. Baltimore
  15. Kyle Rudolph – Minnesota Vikings – vs. Arizona
  16. Gary Barnidge – Cleveland Browns – vs. Pittsburgh
  17. Coby Fleener – New Orleans Saints – at Carolina
  18. Ladarius Green – Pittsburgh Steelers – at Cleveland
  19. Lance Kendricks – Los Angeles Rams – vs. Miami
  20. Will Tye – New York Giants – vs. Chicago

  • The last time the Titans faced the Colts Delanie Walker posted 7 receptions for 84 yards and 1 TD.  That marked the beginning of a strong four game stretch, including TD in three games, and he’s been a focus of the offense (8+ targets in three of the four games).  With Marcus Mariota rolling and a favorable matchup, Walker should be able to keep posting big numbers for another week.
  • Over his past two games Eric Ebron has racked up 14 catches (on 18 targets) for 171 yards.  The only negative you could give him is his lack of TD, but you would think his opportunities in the red zone will only increase.  He’s definitely worth utilizing in all formats.
  • Tyler Eifert has 198 yards over his past two games and draws a Bills’ defense that was torched by Jimmy Graham prior to their bye week.  Obviously seeing only 5 targets on Monday night is a little bit of a concern, but not enough to keep him from being among the best options in the league.
  • It would be easy to simply assume that Martellus Bennett would assume all of Rob Gronkowski’s opportunities, but we all know things aren’t that cut and dry.  That said you know he should see at least 6-8 targets (he had 7 targets this past week with Gronkowski playing) and the matchup is a favorable one.  He’s well worth using as a TE1 in all formats.
  • Over the past four weeks the New York Giants have actually allowed the fifth most yards to opposing TE (307).  With Alshon Jeffrey out, that should mean ample opportunities for the tight end as well.  While there is risk, there’s also enough upside to warrant TE1 consideration for Zach Miller.
  • Zach Ertz has seen his stock rise over the past two weeks, turning 15 targets into 14 catches and 152 yards.  The one “knock” is his lack of TD, but that should be there.  The upside is there, so don’t shy away.
  • While Jason Witten has had some big games of late, the Ravens have been the best defense against opposing tight ends all season long.  While it’s easy to buy, the matchup keeps him more in the TE2 spectrum.

  1. Krysta says:

In preparation for a playoffs run, I am currently starting Cameron Brate and have Charles Clay on my bench. Keep Clay or switch him out w/one of these free agents: Lance Kendricks, Dwayne Allen, Ladarius Green, Will Tye.

  2. dodge10 says:

who has a better matchup rishard matthews v. colts or pryor v. steelers

  3. Eric says:

Hey prof (Eric)- I asked Will yesterday but also wanted your opinion- std. league which 5 (2 wr,2rb,1 flex)would you roll this week-Wr’s- Dez, Kelvin Benjamin, Doug Baldwin, De. Hopkins, Moncrief
RB’s- Lamar Miller, Theo Riddick, Doug Martin, Jonathan Stewart
    Thanks !

  4. Matthew says:

    Hey Prof

Got a tough one. Walker or Olsen?. .5 PPR

  5. MikeP says:

Standard scoring league, between my flex and TE spots I’m debating between these options:
    Bennett, Reed, Donte Moncrief.

I actually have it set to Reed in TE and Moncrief in teh flex spot, but should I sub in Bennett for Moncrief (assuming Gronk doesn’t play, of course. If Gronk plays it’s Moncrief and Reed for sure).

    What say you professor?

  6. Krysta – Those guys are all pretty interchangable. I’d say Kendricks, but the QB change scares me. Green probably has the highest upside of the group.

    dodge10 – I guess Pryor

Eric – I’m the one who answered yesterday, so my response remains unchanged 🙂

Matthew – Can’t go wrong, but I’d lean Walker

MikeP – Nope, I’d leave it how you have it

    • Eric says:

Ha!! I was thinking same ones except instead of Martin- I was going to roll Riddick. Martin at KC, and the fact that his ypc last week (and all year for that matter) have stunk. You helped me win last year so….. I’m rolling with your choices (unless you have second thoughts)!! Thanks again for all y’all do!

  7. Smidge says:

I have Walker and Eifert should I play one as a Flex over Pryor? Full point PPR

  8. Cara Stewart says:

Eifert or Bennett?? Im thinking Bennet should do well without Gronk but you never know with NE

  9. Trevor says:

Hey prof, Julius Thomas or CJ today? 1/2 ppr

  10. haggy says:

Got Fleener and Green TE’s. Brate is on wire with McDonald and Barnidge. Should I keep 2 TE’s or go to 1. Which two or which one for ROS.

    • haggy says:

And please put these in order of best to worst for rest of season in case I need to go to 1 TE..Never know who shows up on wire. But for now I could carry two.

    • I’d rank them:

      1) Brate
      2) Barnidge
      3) Green
      4) Fleener
      5) McDonald

So, I’d swap out both but there’s enough there that you can stream the 1 spot if needed.

  11. Too Tall says:

    Hi Professor,

Lost Zach Miller. Need a replacement.

Will Tye, Vance McDonald, Cameron Brate, Vernon Davis, Kyle Rudolf, Hunter Henry available. Would you go Tye for week 12 since he has Cleveland? Or would you choose one of the other TE for week 12 and the rest of the season? If so, which one? Thank you.
