Thursday Start ‘Em or Sit ‘Em: Kirk Cousins, Stefon Diggs, Jamison Crowder & More

by Eric Stashin (aka The Rotoprofessor)

With three Thanksgiving Day games, there are certainly plenty of lineup decisions that need to be made.  Let’s take a look at some of the more intriguing ones, as we try to maneuver our squads into the playoffs:

{SIT} Matthew Stafford – Quarterback – Detroit Lions
Some people may consider starting him, but remember he hasn’t topped 280 yards since September and has 1 TD or fewer in three of his past four games.  He also gets a tough draw, as the Vikings have allowed the fourth fewest points per week to opposing quarterbacks (a team that Stafford mustered just 219 yards against just three weeks ago).  There’s too much risk involved in this one, especially in single-quarterback formats.

{START} Kirk Cousins – Quarterback
While Dak Prescott is going to garner more attention in this one, don’t overlook Cousins and his upside potential.  He’s thrown for over 300 yards in three of his past four games, while racking up 7 TD vs. 1 INT over the past three weeks.  Throw in a Dallas defense that has allowed 677 passing yards (most in the league) and 4 TD over the past two weeks and you get a solid QB1.  Use him with confidence.

{SIT} Donte Moncrief – Wide Receiver – Indianapolis Colts
While T.Y. Hilton remains a viable option, even without Andrew Luck, what about Moncrief?  While he’s scored in three straight games he hasn’t topped 55 yards over this stretch (133 yards total) and it’s hard to expect him to suddenly rack up the numbers.  Unless you are desperate, you’d be wise to look at your alternatives.

{SIT} Stefon Diggs – Wide Receiver – Minnesota Vikings
He didn’t practice on Tuesday, which certainly sent up the red flags, and it appears that he isn’t a guarantee to play.  A healthy Diggs would be a viable WR2, especially having racked up 92 total yards against Detroit in Week 9.  Of course he’s coming off just 37 yards against the Cardinals and we have the question on if he’ll be limited or not.  This early in the week, he’s far too risky to trust.

{START – PPR} Theo Riddick – Running Back – Detroit Lions
He’s shown promise running the football, at times, though unsurprisingly his biggest impact has come catching the ball (8 catches for 70 yards in Week 11).  He’s been limited in practice, though there isn’t a concern about him not suiting up.  In PPR formats he’s an easy RB2, but in non-PPR formats he’ll be a riskier play (especially coming off a week where he had just 4 carries).

{SIT} Jamison Crowder – Wide Receiver
The sophomore certainly made the most of his 3 targets in Week 11, racking up 3 catches for 102 yards and 1 TD.  He’s now scored in three straight games, with 6 TD overall (as well as 47 catches and 637 yards).  The problem is if he’s going to be able to be as efficient once again, as there’s no guarantee that the targets are there given the breakout of Rob Kelley and the presence of DeSean Jackson, Jordan Reed and Pierre Garcon in the passing game.  Given the risk, he’s more of a WR3.
