Week 13 Rankings (2016): Top 25 Quarterbacks

by Eric Stashin (aka The Rotoprofessor)

It feels like the NFL season just begun, but there’s only five weeks remaining and the fantasy playoffs are almost upon us.  Who can trust with everything hanging in the balance?  Who is simply too risky of an option?  Let’s take a look at how everything shakes out for Week 13:

  1. Drew Brees – New Orleans Saints – vs. Detroit
  2. Tom Brady – New England Patriots – vs. Los Angeles
  3. Aaron Rodgers – Green Bay Packers – vs. Houston
  4. Andrew Luck – Indianapolis Colts – at New York Jets
  5. Matt Ryan – Atlanta Falcons – vs. Kansas City
  6. Philip Rivers – San Diego Chargers – vs. Tampa Bay
  7. Russell Wilson – Seattle Seahawks – vs. Carolina
  8. Dak Prescott – Dallas Cowboys – at Minnesota
  9. Ben Roethlisberger – Pittsburgh Steelers – vs. New York Giants
  10. Matthew Stafford – Detroit Lions – at New Orleans
  11. Derek Carr – Oakland Raiders – vs. Buffalo
  12. Colin Kaepernick – San Francisco 49ers – at Chicago
  13. Eli Manning – New York Giants – at Pittsburgh
  14. Jameis Winston – Tampa Bay Buccaneers – at San Diego
  15. Kirk Cousins – Washington Redskins – at Arizona
  16. Cam Newton – Carolina Panthers – at Seattle
  17. Carson Palmer – Arizona Cardinals – vs. Washington
  18. Andy Dalton – Cincinnati Bengals – vs. Philadelphia
  19. Tyrod Taylor – Buffalo Bills – at Oakland
  20. Ryan Fitzpatrick – New York Jets – vs. Indianapolis
  21. Alex Smith – Kansas City Chiefs – at Atlanta
  22. Joe Flacco – Baltimore Ravens – vs. Miami
  23. Carson Wentz – Philadelphia Eagles – at Cincinnati
  24. Matt Barkley – Chicago Bears – vs. San Francisco
  25. Brock Osweiler – Houston Texans – at Green Bay

  • We would’ve expected better numbers from Tom Brady against the New York Jets, but his knee injury likely had him somewhat limited.  He still managed 286 yards and 2 TD and has racked up an amazing 18 TD vs. 1 INT in 7 games this season.  Sure the Rams represent a difficult matchup and who knows the status of Rob Gronkowski, but none of that matters.  With the way Brady has been performing he has to be considered one of the elite in the league regardless of what else is going on around him.
  • Andrew Luck has disappointed this season, but any potential top level quarterback against the porous Jets’ secondary is going to be worth utilizing.  The biggest question is going to be whether or not he’s going to play, after missing Week 12 due to a concussion.  Signs have pointed towards him being cleared, so keep him towards the top of these rankings, but monitor the news just in case.
  • While Drew Brees has actually performed well everywhere this season, he’s averaged 357 yards with 19 TD vs. 4 INT at home.  In fact he’s only been under 300 yards once in his five home starts, so how can we not fully endorse him?
  • It was supposed to be a tough matchup for Matt Ryan with the Cardinals in Week 12, but he responded to put up 269 yards, 2 TD and 1 INT.  The matchup with the Chiefs seems like a difficult one as well, but Kansas City has actually been beat a bit recently through the air (including watching Trevor Siemian get them for 368 yards and 3 TD).  In other words, once again we need to keep Ryan elevated on the rankings.
  • After exploding for 296 yards and 3 TD through the air and 113 yards on the ground, along with a favorable matchup against the Chicago Bears, how can we not consider Colin Kaepernick a back-end QB1 this week?
  • While no one is going to go and recommend Matt Barkley as a top notch option, he proved he can produce in Week 12 (316 yards, 3 TD, 2 INT) and draws a favorable matchup with the 49ers.  As a QB2, he’s well worth the gamble.

  1. James says:

  2. Barney says:

HI prof. Need help. I know u got zak higher than Eli but don’t u think Pitt ny will b a shootout?? And. A defense this week available gb ,sf, chi, Cindy, dallas sd and carolina and zona. Thanks

  3. Krysta says:

  5. C.J says:

    Kaep or Eli?

    Thank you

  6. Andy says:

    Hi RP,
My TE is bye this week, should i pick up

Zach Ertz at Cinci or CJ Fiedorowics vs Greenbay for Week 13?

I have Eagle Def and Arizona Def, shoudl I drop Ari to pick up Houston for Playoff week 15-17 ? it has Baltimore, Miami too.

  7. BWAY says:

    Dak @ Min
    Cousins @ Ari
    Wilson vs Car

  8. James – It’s close, but I’m going Rivers

Barney – It could be, but Giants’ offense hasn’t been that great this season. As for the D, I’m going Arizona

Krysta – Yep, but both underwhelming

Jason Williams – He was literally #26

    C.J – I’m going Kaep, but it’s a coin flip

Andy – I’m rolling Ertz. I like Arizona better than Philly, so if I’m dropping one it would be them

BWAY – Wilson, but just barely over Prescott

    • Krysta says:

I “believe” i’m securing the last playoffs spot in the worst case scenario this week. In preparation for a real shot at the title,I already have Tyrod, but should I keep Blake or replace him with these free agents: Fitzpatrick, Simian, Osweiler or Goof?

  9. Krysta says:

Quick misplaced waiver question. I currently have Cameron Brate and looking for a upgrade for Jared Cook. Notable waiver option Vernon Davis, Vance McDonald, Ladarius Green…how would you rank preference?

  10. Please pick one: Standard scoring
    Sammy Watkins @ OAK
    Wendell Smallwood @ CINN
    Darren Sproles @ CINN

  11. Barney says:

Also prof at flex 10 team std booker Sammy Watkins Jeremy hill Kenneth Davis or Landry thanks

  12. Bill Meissner – I’d go with Watkins at this point

    Barney – probably Hill

  13. Donnie says:

    Hey Prof
I am in the playoffs, but fighting for a bye. Should I play Cousins @ AZ or Wilson @ home? I am thinking Wilson, but not for sure. Thanks for any advice.

  14. Barney says:

Ros defense not for this week. Kc defense and buffal d available on waiver wire

  15. Trevor says:

Last week you widely advised to start Cousins over Winston. Do it again this week or reverse it due to Cousins’ tough matchup?
