Will Allen Robinson (Or Similar WR) Be Viable Options This Week?

by Ray Kuhn

Speculation doesn’t matter. Potential, that is meaningless at this point in the season. What is important though, is results.

And there are players, who for one reason or another, just haven’t produced them this season. At this point in the season, there is no need to be taking risks. If there is a risk to be taken, it should be in situations where upside is plentiful. There is no tomorrow, and you should plan accordingly.

Who would have thought this? We are in Week 16, and Allen Robinson is ranked 44th among wide receivers by RotoProfessor. It certainly isn’t a sudden development as Robinson has struggled all season, but it is a bit surprising to see him not even ranked as a WR3.

After all, Robinson was either a late first round or early second round selection in drafts this summer. We are well beyond the point of equating Robinson’s roster status to where he was drafted, and it is very possible you weren’t able to overcome his poor performance, but the time is now.

There is no reason to be seduced by Robinson any longer. How can you feel comfortable going with a wide receiver who caught just two passes for 15 yards on Sunday. Robinson is still involved in Jacksonville’s game plan, he was targeted eight times, but the results are just not there.

Robinson has struggled to get open this season, and quite frankly just has not showed much as a play maker. Jacksonville’s offense has struggled as a unit this season, Blake Bortles deserves the majority of the blame, but there is also enough to go around.

On the season, Robinson has just 59 receptions for 697 yards and six touchdowns and, at times, it appears Marquise Lee has surpassed him.

Lee is averaging 13.5 yards per catch on 54 receptions, but he has just two touchdowns and he failed to catch a pass last week. That leads us to one reasonable conclusion; the Jacksonville offense needs to avoided.

While we used Robinson as an example, we can certainly apply his situation to a multitude of other players as we enter this week. Stay away, and to be honest, Robinson doesn’t deserve to be on rosters any longer. Don’t be seduced by pre-season rankings.
