Thoughts:

  • The long awaited return of Aaron Rodgers happens this week. Not only does that affect the QB rankings, but it shakes things up in the WR rankings as well. I still see DaVante Adams as the lead option, as he has been with Brett Hundley, but it’s Jordy Nelson whose value will really be going up. Nelson has completely fallen off a cliff since Rodgers was hurt, but I expect that if Rodgers is the old Rodgers we’ll see shades of the old Nelson too.
  • For two straight weeks Dez Bryant has found the end zone and we’re back to seeing him as a Top 15 WR and a lower end WR1. The ceiling still seems somewhat capped given the fact that he hasn’t eclipsed the 100 yard mark this season, but if Dak Prescott is looking for him in the red zone again that makes a big difference. The matchup is also about as good as it can get with the terrible Raiders defense, which increases the ceiling for this week.
  • I’m not saying you have to bench Mike Evans, but I am saying he isn’t a WR1 and that if you have the right team there are situations where you can sit him.  Evans hasn’t scored a TD in six consecutive games, he hasn’t hit 100 yards yet this season and the return of Jameis Winston has almost made things worse (Evans has four catches and 58 yards in two games since Winston came back from injury).
  • I love the Jaguars offense this week against the Texans and I particularly like Dede Westbrook. He has progressively been getting better and is clicking more with Blake Bortles. Westbrook has 11 catches the last two weeks for a total of 159 yards and he scored his first NFL touchdown this last week against the Seahawks. So now he is hitting his stride and gets possibly the best matchup out there with the Texans. Westbrook can be considered a potential starter in all formats.
  • After missing four weeks Chris Hogan came back last week against the Miami Dolphins. On paper the return obviously looks like a train wreck as he caught one pass for one yard. That said, things were just off for the whole Patriots passing game. Also on a positive note, Hogan played in all but six snaps on offense and reportedly suffered no setbacks. I think the Steelers and Patriotss game may turn into a bit of a shootout and Hogan could make fantasy owners forget all about what happened this last Monday.
  • I would just as soon not use any Ravens receiver if I can help it, but if I have to use someone I’ll go with the guy who has the hot hand in Mike Wallace. Combined in these last two weeks Wallace has 188 yards and seems to be the favorite target of Joe Flacco right now. Who knows who on Baltimore will draw coverage from Jason McCourty, but Wallace is the guy you want just don’t be surprised if things totally fall off this week.

    Hey Professor,

Have a couple tough choices this week…

Standard league, starting M. Thomas as WR1, but for WR2, Jeffery or Marvin Jones? Also, A. Morris, D. Lewis or one of the aforementioned WRs in flex?

PPR, Have K. Allen, B. Cooks, T. Hill and D. Funchess as my WR1, 2, 3 and flex. Hill probably has the toughest matchup, would you consider D. Westbrook over Hill?

Lastly, PPR, have Julio and Marvin as WR1 and 2, who should I flex, M. Goodwin or D. Westbrook? I also have D. Lewis in over D. Murray, leave as is?

    Thanks as always!

  7. Matt says:
