According to Calvin Watkins of ESPN Dallas (via Twitter):
“Jerry jones said he doesn’t think miles Austin will play Sunday at Arizona.”
According to the NFL injury report Austin did not practice on Thursday. While we will know more today, the fact that he wasn’t on the practice field is another bad sign when it comes to him taking the field on Sunday.
The Professor’s Thoughts:
This is much different news then we were hearing earlier in the week and, when coupled with the news that Dez Bryant would be handling punts this week, significantly shakes up our wide receiver rankings. At this point everything points to Laurent Robinson now being a borderline WR1 against the Arizona Cardinals.
Robinson has been on fire of late with at least one touchdown in five straight games (seven touchdowns over that span). He also has become the team’s most targeted receiver. Just look at the number over the past two weeks:
- Laurent Robinson – 23
- Dez Bryant – 14
- Jason Witten – 8
There is now little questioning the fact that Robinson will be given ample opportunities to produce in Week 13. The Arizona Cardinals are currently allowing the eighth most passing yards per game at 250.2. They have allowed just 12 passing touchdowns, though that shouldn’t be a major concern. Robinson has proven that he can take the ball to the house, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he did it again in Week 13.
Consider Robinson a borderline Top 10 option for the coming week and a must play in all formats. Of the Cowboys’ receivers, he is currently the one to use in all formats.
