Week 17 Rankings: Top 15 Defenses

by Will Overton

It’s beginning to become the norm to have San Francisco at the top of this list and here they are once again. Let’s take a look at how things fall after the 49ers:

  1. San Francisco 49ers @ St. Louis
  2. Pittsburgh Steelers @ Cleveland
  3. Philadelphia Eagles vs. Washington
  4. Atlanta Falcons vs. Tampa Bay
  5. Seattle Seahawks @ Arizona
  6. Baltimore Ravens @ Cincinnati
  7. New York Jets @ Miami
  8. Houston Texans vs. Tennessee
  9. Detroit Lions @ Green Bay
  10. New England Patriots vs. Buffalo
  11. Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Indianapolis Colts
  12. Chicago Bears @ Minnesota
  13. Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit
  14. Tennessee Titans @ Houston
  15. San Diego Chargers @ Oakland
  • The last four weeks the Philadelphia Eagles are tied for second in most fantasy points among defenses. Conversely the Baltimore Ravens are 24th among those same games. It took a while, but the Eagles have figured things out defensively it seems and that makes them one of the best options this week.
  • Speaking of hot defenses, the Seattle Seahawks have not just been good lately, they have been the best defense in the league lately. Over the last four games they are the best defense with 19 more points than any other defense. In those four games they have 11 sacks, 9 interceptions and 2 TD’s. Seattle is pretty much a must start defense right now, who would’ve thought that’d happen?
  • It’s a risk to name any defense going against the Packers as a top ten defense. However, there’s a good chance Matt Flynn plays at least half of that game Sunday and the Lions could very well tear him to pieces. Detroit has the second best defense in terms of fantasy points and they should continue to rack them up against the Packers second string. Just as long as Rodgers doesn’t do too much damage while he is in.
  • The Chicago Bears defense has been sputtering a bit lately, but they should turn in a solid performance against the Vikings. They still are not a great option, but they’re a good one if you need someone to fill a void.

    • Will Overton says:

San Fran is still trying to secure a first round bye so I think they’ll play there guys and that’s the defense I like.

Aaron Rodgers and Greg Jennings out today. Should I play Steelers D/ST or Lions D/ST??
