Week 3 Rankings: Top 15 Defenses

Let’s continue with our Week 3 rankings by looking at the top defenses for the coming week:

  1. San Francisco 49ers – at Minnesota
  2. Pittsburgh Steelers – at Oakland
  3. Chicago Bears – vs. St. Louis
  4. Detroit Lions – at Tennessee
  5. New York Jets – at Miami
  6. Houston Texans – at Denver
  7. Green Bay Packers – at Seattle
  8. Philadelphia Eagles – at Arizona
  9. Dallas Cowboys – vs. Tampa Bay
  10. Arizona Cardinals – vs. Philadelphia
  11. Baltimore Ravens – vs. New England
  12. Buffalo Bills – at Cleveland
  13. Indianapolis Colts – vs. Jacksonville
  14. New York Giants – at Carolina
  15. Jacksonville Jaguars – at Indianapolis

Thoughts:

  • The Chicago Bears have 4 interceptions and 8 sacks on the season, plus they are coming off a poor performance on national television with a long rest to lick their wounds.  They could easily be a dangerous group to face this week.
  • I know the Dolphins looked good offensively in Week 2, but if Darrelle Revis is healthy it’s hard to imagine the Jets not being a good play this week.  Keep in mind, if Revis is out again they would fall a few notches, however.  He’s status is going to play a vital role in if they are a recommended group or not.
  • We all know what the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense did against the Giants in Week 2, but the Cowboys’ secondary is certainly better than New York’s.  They are worth using as a low-end defense this week.
  • Does anyone believe New England’s offense is going to struggle for two consecutive weeks?  It’s tough to bench the Ravens’ defense, but consider them more of a low-end option with a very tough matchup.
  • Would I want to trust the Giants defense this week?  Absolutely not, but they do have the potential to generate sacks and make plays.  I’d consider other options, but at least they have upside.

  1. Stan says:

should i pick up the colts d and drop the patriots d?

  2. Triz says:

Bears and Jets are both available. I know you will say I’m not dropping the Ravens, but should I pick up one of these Ds for this week? If yes, only if I don’t manage to exchange Ballard for Jackson, or should I still maybe drop say Titus Young to get another D?

    Thanks!

  3. jon says:

That seems a bit harsh given all the free content offered on this site. Sheesh.

  4. Triz – I need to catch my z’s when the little one let’s me!! haha…sorry!

Who are your other receivers again? That would depend on dropping Young or not. As for your D, I would drop Ballard for the Bears D this week, then we’ll worry about F-Jax afterwards.

    jon – She’s been a reader for a long, I know she’s kidding but thanks! :)

    • Triz says:

I wasn’t actually kidding, I was freaking! but, I currently have a remarkably golden fantasy football team thanks to your advice so, apologies. are there ever going to be miniprof pictures?

RBs: CJ Spiller, Ryan Mathews (Donald Brown, Dwyer, Vick Ballard)

WR: Calvin Johnson, Percy Harvin, Stevie Johnson (Antonio Brown, Titus Young)

I only (“only”) have Gronkowski at TE.

  5. mike says:

hey, I have SEA DEF but Green bay DEF is available. Should I pick GB DEF up and loose my sleeper pick of Seatle DEF?

  6. Nick Tenaglia says:

2 DST League….. Already starting the Texans, who should be my 2nd option? ATL or TEN? (both Yucky matchups)

  7. Paul Partyka says:

Well Rotoprofesor you did me in last week lol. The Raiders D was awful, should of went with my Eagles D. Cundiff didn’t do much and McFadden was terrible as well. So this week I went with my gut. Rate my moves for this week. Rolling with Crabtree over Colston. Spiller over Run DMC, picked up Pitta and starting him over Pettigrew, and picked up Barth over Cundiff. What you think?

    • Spiller over McFadden is a definite

Pitta over Pettigrew is close enough that I would say go with your gut.

I don’t have Barth or Cundiff in my Top 15, so flip a coin.

I still don’t trust Crabtree. That’s really the only one I don’t agree with.

  8. Triz says:

Thanks so much for the advice to get the Bears D! 3-0, yay!
