Week 7 Rankings: Top 15 Defenses

Let’s wrap up our Week 7 rankings looking at the top defenses for the week:

  1. Minnesota Vikings – vs. Arizona
  2. San Francisco 49ers – vs. Seattle
  3. Green Bay Packers – at St. Louis
  4. Chicago Bears – vs. Detroit
  5. Arizona Cardinals – at Minnesota
  6. Houston Texans – vs. Baltimore
  7. New York Giants – vs. Washington
  8. Dallas Cowboys – at Carolina
  9. New England Patriots – vs. New York Jets
  10. Seattle Seahawks – at San Francisco
  11. Cleveland Browns – at Indianapolis
  12. Pittsburgh Steelers – at Cincinnati
  13. Buffalo Bills – vs. Tennessee
  14. New York Jets – at New England
  15. St. Louis Rams – vs. Green Bay

Thoughts:

  • The Chicago Bears defense has been the best in the league, mostly because they have scored 5 TD this season.  It’s hard to count on them scoring every week and, while the Lions offense hasn’t been quite as good as fantasy owners had hoped for, they do still have the potential to explode at any time.  Those things keep the Bears suppressed a few spots down the rankings instead of sitting atop them.
  • If it was Kevin Kolb at QB I don’t think the Vikings would top this list.  However, John Skelton has done nothing to scare defenses, both Beanie Wells & Ryan Williams are out and Percy Harvin has a chance to score every time he touches the ball on kick returns.  In other words, there’s an awful lot to like.
  • Robert Griffin III has the potential to put up big yardage, but with the Giants defensive line finally waking up they are one of the more potent defenses in the league.  New York made a statement in Week 6 and should follow it up.
  • The Cowboys defense is a nice sleeper for the coming week.  If you want to know why, click here.
  • Do I trust the Patriots defense?  Not really…  Except, they struggle against the pass and against the Jets, that isn’t as much of a concern.  If they can shut down Shonn Greene (which wouldn’t be surprising), they should post a nice day defensively.

  1. dk says:

Is arizona a must play vs minnesota who has only given up a combined 8 points at home vs defenses

  2. Tyler says:

With Vick on bye, who is the better start: Freeman vs the saints or Palmer vs the jags?

Also. just a random question: is beanie wells worth stashing on the bench?

  3. gmoney says:

Who would you start out of Cleveland, St. Louis, Detroit, Indy, and Jax?

  4. dk – Depends on your other options, but Arizona is a very good play this week.

Tyler – Wells = Absolutely, if you have the roster spot to stash him. As for the QB, both are decent but I would go Freeman in what may be a shootout with the Saints.

    gmoney – I’d go Cleveland

  5. Tyler says:

Who would you drop for wells? Turbin, Harper (I have CJ), Hawkins, or Hixon? My WR situation is really good and my RB situation is pretty bad.

  6. Nick Tenaglia says:

    Who should be my flex:
    Chris Johnson @BUF
    Kenny Britt @BUF
    Steve Smith vDAL

    • Nick Tenaglia says:

Scratch that….. just traded Chris Johnson…

Kenny Britt, Steve Smith, or Vick Ballard…. Im thinking Britt

      • Dron says:

Who did you trade Chris Johnson for? Trying to gauge the value people are getting for him.

      • Yea, I’m curious who you moved CJ for (who would’ve been my choice). Now, Britt is the way to go though.

        • Nick Tenaglia says:

I traded Chris Johnson and Jeremy Maclin for Demarco Murray and Vick Ballard. Yeah I probably “lost” this deal when you compare all the players involved, but I had 2 goals when making this deal: 1. I had two RB’s with a week 11 Bye, one of which was CJ, so I needed to dump him; 2. Get an upgrade at my Flex spot, which was going to be some combination of CJ and Maclin

My current roster now looks like this:
RB: Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson, Demarco Murray, Vick Ballard (who I will drop once Murray is healthy)
WR: Victor Cruz, Mike Wallace, Steve Smith, Kenny Britt

With my everyday lineup being Rice, AP, Murray, Cruz and Wallace… looks pretty good to me

Basically I had an extra player that was expendable (either Maclin, Britt or Smith), so I packaged him with CJ to get an upgrade at RB
