Week 7 Rankings: Top 15 Kickers

Let’s continue to look at our Week 7 rankings by taking a look at the kickers:

  1. Lawrence Tynes – New York Giants – vs. Washington
  2. Jason Hanson – Detroit Lions – at Chicago
  3. Greg Zuerlein – St. Louis Rams – vs. Green Bay
  4. Blair Walsh – Minnesota Vikings – vs. Arizona
  5. Shayne Graham – Houston Texans – vs. Baltimore
  6. Robbie Gould – Chicago Bears – vs. Detroit
  7. Stephen Gostkowski – New England Patriots – vs. New York Jets
  8. David Akers – San Francisco 49ers – vs. Seattle
  9. Sebastian Janikowski – Oakland Raiders – vs. Jacksonville
  10. Justin Tucker – Baltimore Ravens – at Houston
  11. Phil Dawson – Cleveland Browns – at Indianapolis
  12. Dan Bailey – Dallas Cowboys – at Carolina
  13. Mike Nugent – Cincinnati Bengals – vs. Pittsburgh
  14. Connor Barth – Tampa Bay Buccaneers – vs. New Orleans
  15. Rian Lindell – Buffalo Bills – vs. Tennessee

  • Greg Zuerlein is coming off a poor day, missing three field goals (his first three misses of the season).  However, the team let him try a 66 yard field goal.  That alone should tell you what they think of him.  With a weak offense, he should continue to get ample opportunities and I would expect him to bounce back strong this week.
  • The Bears defense is tough and the Lions offense is not really hitting on all cylinders.  That should continue to mean chances for Jason Hanson, who has connected on 9 field goals from 40-49 yards (and 1 from 50+ yards).  He remains a top option.
  • The Carolina Panthers are tied for the league lead with 16 field goals allowed (with the Philadelphia Eagles).  While Dan Bailey has been pretty poor this season (only 8 field goals, including 2 from 40+ yards) the match-up does make him a potential low-end option.

    No love for Bironas?

  2. Triz says:

And no love for Akers? !!!

Gronkowski and Akers have byes on the same week (9) so I’m going to need to replace them both. Is it worth dropping Pitta now and picking up Zuerlein, or wait a week or two and see what happens?

  3. Steve says:

@Triz: I’d wait a week or two to see what the Ravens do on Offense. With their defense losing two of their key players, I would expect the Ravens to start opening up on Offense more. They need to if they are going to have any hopes for defeating teams week in and week out.

  4. Triz – I wouldn’t drop Pitta, but if you can get Zuerlin he is the better kicker option at this point.

Steve – Bironas just hasn’t been that good…. Tough to trust him against other options at this point, especially with only two kicks of over 40 yards.

  5. RT says:

Akers or Graham? Based on your rankings it would be Graham or are they close?
