It’s never too early to start preparing for Week 1, is it? If you are a fantasy footballer who likes to stream his/her defense, let’s take a look at the best options for the NFL’s opening week (we will address these again closer to Week 1, as injuries could change the pick dramatically):
Indianapolis Colts vs. Oakland Raiders
The Colts defense isn’t expected to be very good this season, but the Raiders’ offense has the potential to be atrocious. Terrelle Pryor looked good in the team’s third preseason game, but is anyone convinced that he’s going to be able to thrive? There’s a good chance that the Colts stack the box, tempting Pryor to beat them deep. That’s going to make running lanes hard to find for Darren McFadden, new blocking system or not. If Pryor and his receivers can’t connect, it’s going to be a long afternoon. The Colts are going to be a risky pick, but one probably worth taking against Oakland.
All Keep An Eye On:
Kansas City Chiefs at Jacksonville
Both Blaine Gabaert and Maurice Jones-Drew could be battling injuries, though both could also easily suit up. The Chiefs have to be on the radar, for now, but if Jones-Drew (more specifically) is healthy they are going to be a pretty big gamble.
Which defense are you eying for the opening week?
