If you are a fantasy footballer who likes to stream his/her defense, let’s take a look at the best options for the NFL’s second week:
Indianapolis Colts – at Jacksonville
At this point anyone who gets to take on the Jaguars is going to be worth considering, especially with Maurice Jones-Drew struggling. The Colts have not done a good job of stopping the run, thus far, but Jones-Drew has done little to make us think he’s going to produce big numbers.
The Colts have stopped the pass, including allowing only 2 passing TD and registering 9 sacks. Considering the Jaguars have allowed 15 sacks already, while throwing just 1 TD and 4 INT, this one has the potential to get ugly.
The only fear is Maurice Jones-Drew getting hot and putting up some numbers, but early on that just doesn’t seem likely. Picking on the Jaguars will probably become a theme this season, so it’s something to get used to.
Others to Consider:
Tennessee Titans – vs. New York Jets
Sure the Jets put up some numbers against the Bills, but does anyone truly believe in their offensive upside?
The Titans have been solid against the run, allowing 101.7 yards per game and 2 TD. They’ve also been good against the pass, allowing 200.6 yards per game.
Sure, they haven’t been great in any one area, but they have been solid across the board. Considering the matchups (Steelers, Texans and Chargers), that’s more than enough to consider them viable against one of the weaker offensive teams in the league.
Arizona Cardinals – at Tampa Bay
The Buccaneers are in complete disarray offensively, despite having weapons like Doug Martin and Vincent Jackson. The Cardinals defense has struggled, allowing 7 passing TD and registering only 5 sacks. They have been good against the run, though, allowing 73.3 yards per game and just 1 TD. If they can take Martin out, that is going to put the pressure on Josh Freeman to try and beat them. Thus far, he hasn’t proven capable.
This is a major risk, because the Buccaneers do have the potential to get hot. However, if you are streaming defenses you have to be willing to take a few gambles.
