We all know that Knowshon Moreno has emerged as the top running back in Denver. We also know that the offense revolves around Peyton Manning and an electric passing attack, setting NFL records seemingly every week. However things could be different in Week 6.
The Broncos face an inept Jacksonville team, boasting one of the largest point spreads ever (they are favored by 27.5 points). While they will go with their normal attack early, once they get out to a big lead you have to think they will give some players a bigger role than normal.
One such player is Montee Ball, who has fallen to third on the depth chart and is coming off a 1 yard effort. The rookie has rushed for more than 24 yards just once in his first five games, managed two receptions and lost two fumbles. This seems like the perfect opportunity to get the rookie’s feet wet.
The Jaguars are the worst rushing defense in the league, allowing 160.6 yards per game. They’ve also yielded 9 runs of at least 20 yards, so if Ball gets into the game there is a good chance he can make some plays.
Obviously he needs to be considered more of a desperation play. This is the NFL and anything can happen…
No, we can’t expect the Jaguars to win the game, but maybe they keep it close until deep into the game. However, if you are in a deeper format and find yourself desperate, rolling the dice on Ball could make plenty of sense.
