Forget Me/Forget Me Not: Heath Miller

by Eric Stashin (aka The Rotoprofessor)

It’s easy to forget about the Steelers’ veteran tight end, after he played the majority of 2013 and underwhelmed (58 receptions, 593 yards, 1 TD). However, we have to remember that he was still working his way back from an ACL tear.

In article by Scott Brown of ESPN (click here to read), in regards to his 2014 expectations and struggles from ’13 Miller was quoted as saying:

“I should be able to put more preparation in, should be able to work like I’m used to working,” Miller said Thursday following the Steelers’ final OTA of the week. “Last year was about trying to find a new normal for myself and I’m a creature of habit, so that wasn’t easy for me. I’m fully confident by the time the season rolls around I’m going to be feeling much better than the start of last year just from a confidence perspective.”

It’s definitely encouraging, especially for a player who had 71 receptions for 816 yards and 8 TD in 15 games in ’12.

There’s no arguing the potential rapport he has with Ben Roethlisberger, as well as the opportunity that is there for him this season. Emmanuel Sanders is now in Denver, taking his 112 targets with him (67 receptions for 740 yards and 6 TD). Also gone is Jerricho Cotchery, who was surprisingly targeted 76 times and picked up 46 receptions for 602 yards and 10 TD.

In their place? The team hopes Markus Wheaton can step up and they added veterans Lance Moore and Darrius Heyward-Bey… In other words, they need Miller to look like the player he used to be.

Thus far this preseason he appears to be just that, including 5 catches for 53 yards and a touchdown in the team’s third preseason game. Just for good measure, let’s add that he could easily be the team’s go to option in the red zone, standing 6’5″ and 256 lbs., and there’s a lot to be excited for.

He currently owns an average ADP of 153.3, putting him as the 17th tight end coming off the board. At that price tag, given his opportunity, return to health and past performance, how can you go wrong?

Verdict – Forget Me Not!
