Thursday Start ‘Em or Sit ‘Em: Week 5 (2020): Ronald Jones & More

Thursday games are always tricky, though that’s not groundbreaking news.  Let’s take a quick look at some of the more questionable decisions for tonight’s game and try to decide who we should trust and who should be avoided:

Is Ronald Jones A Good Option Tonight…

With Leonard Fournette doubtful, LeSean McCoy out and Kenjon Barner suspended, Jones should have a heavy workload in his future. The only other option is rookie Ke’Shawn Vaughn, though he’s handled just 5 touches over the first four weeks. Jones is coming off an impressive Week 4 against the Chargers:

  • Rushing – 20 carries for 111 yards
  • Receiving – 6 catches for 17 yards

On a short week it makes sense for Jones to be the featured back once again. The Bears have been middle of the pack against opposing running backs this season, but they’ve allowed over 100 yards in each of the past two weeks (245 yards is the fourth most in the league). A defense that’s been a bit exposed along with a heavy workload should lead to a good option for the coming week.

Verdict – Start ‘Em

Is Jimmy Graham A Viable TE1…

Graham has actually been the second most targeted player for the Bears over the first four weeks:

  • Allen Robinson – 41
  • Jimmy Graham – 23
  • Darnell Mooney – 20
  • Anthony Miller – 19
  • David Montgomery – 15

Overall this season the Buccaneers have allowed 197 yards and 1 TD to opposing TE, though the TD came in Week 4. Graham, meanwhile, has had one big day with 10 targets coming in Week 3 against the Falcons (6 catches for 60 yards and 2 TD). In other words he’s hardly a trustworthy option, though more of a desperation play depending on your alternatives.

Verdict – High Risk Start ‘Em (better left on bench)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Start/Sit Decisions:

  • Tom Brady (QB) – Sit ‘Em (as QB1, startable as QB2)
  • Ronald Jones (RB) – Start ‘Em
  • Mike Evans (WR) – Start ‘Em
  • Scotty Miller (WR) – Sit ‘Em (viable WR3, if needed)
  • Rob Gronkowski (TE) – Sit ‘Em

Chicago Bears Start/Sit Decisions:

  • Nick Foles (QB) – Sit ‘Em
  • David Montgomery (RB) – Start ‘Em
  • Allen Robinson (WR) – Start ‘Em
  • Darnell Mooney (WR) – Sit ‘Em
  • Jimmy Graham (TE) – Sit ‘Em (High Risk Start ‘Em)

  1. 14 Team, 1/2 PP,

RBs: Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, Nyaim Heins, Latavius Murray and Justin Jackson

WR: DeAndre Hopkins, Stefon Diggs, Nkeal Harry, Hunter Renfrow and Scotty Miller

** LOOKS LIKE A LOT OF FREE AGENTS MAY BECOME AVAILABLE SAT, BUT I HAVE THE ABSOLUTE LAST PRIORITY 🙁 WILL CHECK BACK IN SAT **

    1. Assuming Kareen Hunt is RB 1, who would suggest as RB2?

    2. Assuming the plague cancels Stefon Diggs and WR 1 is Deandre Hopkins, who would you WR2?

    3. Of remaining, who would you flex?

      • Ugh…I really thought the Tennesee game would be canceled by now.

1a. If RB2 still Murray from current roster if LeVeon Bell and Damien available free agents? If you’d still go Murray, either worthy of a stash over anyone on current roster

2a. I am big time chasing points after stupidly playing Scotty Miller as WR2 . What is your advice w/Stefon Diggs, roll the dice that the game happens or be safe and bench him?

3a. If safe, who would you flex of who remains (roster & free agents) above…Greg Ward and Trequan Smith also available?
