Thoughts:
- In a class of highly talented rookie wide receivers, the head of the class is Tee Higgins so far. Higgins hasn’t caught less than four passes or gone for fewer than 60 yards in any of the last six games. It’s not surprising to see him get a role in the Bengals offense this season, but the rise to the top of the team’s depth chart is impressive. Higgins had seven catches, 115 yards and a TD grab last week against one of the league’s better defenses in Pittsburgh. At this point he should never be landing on your bench.
- The Buccaneers receiving corps was finally at full strength last Sunday and looked like a well oiled machine with Tom Brady spreading the ball all over the field. Chris Godwin and Mike Evans each caught six passes while Antonio Brown led the team with seven. Godwin is still the highest ranked on this list because I think he has the most upside, but any of the three could put up big numbers any given week. The overall ceiling of all three is a little bit capped because there are so many weapons, but it isn’t beyond Bruce Arians to give Brady 50+ passes.
- After a couple of down weeks the high flying version of Justin Jefferson was back on display last Monday as he put up eight catches and 135 yards against the stout Chicago Bears defense. This was the fourth time this season Jefferson has surpassed 100 yards. While he lacks a bit in consistency, much like the quarterback throwing him the ball, his big play ability makes him incredibly risky to bench especially with a prime matchup with the Cowboys.
- It feels like Tua Tagovailoa is still finding his footing a bit with his wide receivers, but the upside is still showing through and DaVante Parker is the most likely beneficiary as things start clicking more. Parker caught only two passes last Sunday, but he led the team in targets all the same. The Broncos allow for another good opportunity for the two to connect and really make a mark on the fantasy radar.
- While we’re on the subject of rookie wide receivers who are impressing, Michael Pittman Jr has returned from injury in top form. Pittman has led the Colts receivers each of the last two weeks, and last week he had seven catches and 101 yards. It is clear that T.Y. Hilton has lost a few steps and Pittman seems ready to take advantage of the Colts lack of a number one receiver. As the rapport between Rivers and Pittman continues to grow the upside of the rookie will grow with it.
