Week 5 marks the beginning of the official bye weeks, though with only two teams scheduled to sit the options are still plentiful. With some intriguing options for low-end QB1, let’s take a look at who we should be starting and who should be left on your bench for the coming week:
- Russell Wilson – Seattle Seahawks – vs. Minnesota
- Lamar Jackson – Baltimore Ravens – vs. Cincinnati
- Patrick Mahomes – Kansas City Chiefs – vs. Las Vegas
- Josh Allen – Buffalo Bills – at Tennessee
- Dak Prescott – Dallas Cowboys – vs. New York Giants
- Kyler Murray – Arizona Cardinals – at New York Jets
- Deshaun Watson – Houston Texans – vs. Jacksonville
- Drew Brees – New Orleans – vs. Los Angeles Chargers
- Teddy Bridgewater – Carolina Panthers – at Atlanta
- Matt Ryan – Atlanta Falcons – vs. Carolina
- Justin Herbert – Los Angeles Chargers – at New Orleans
- Ryan Tannehill – Tennessee Titans – vs. Buffalo
- Ben Roethlisberger – Pittsburgh Steelers – vs. Philadelphia
- Jared Goff – Los Angeles Rams – at Washington
- Joe Burrow – Cincinnati Bengals – at Baltimore
- Gardner Minshew – Jacksonville Jaguars – at Houston
- Tom Brady – Tampa Bay Buccaneers – at Chicago
- Philip Rivers – Indianapolis Colts – at Cleveland
- Daniel Jones – New York Giants – at Dallas
- Kirk Cousins – Minnesota Vikings – at Seattle
- Derek Carr – Las Vegas Raiders – at Kansas City
- Nick Mullens – San Francisco 49ers – vs. Miami
- Carson Wentz – Philadelphia Eagles – at Pittsburgh
- Ryan Fitzpatrick – Miami Dolphins – at San Francisco
- Nick Foles – Chicago Bears – vs. Tampa Bay
Thoughts:
- Teddy Bridgewater is coming off a solid day against the Cardinals, throwing for 276 yards and 1 TD while adding an additional rushing TD. While he’s not typically a QB1, against the Falcons (who have allowed the most points per week to opposing QB) and with the bye weeks starting he’s going to be slotted in as a low-end option this week.
- With Michael Thomas potentially returning and taking on a Chargers’ defense that’s been among the worst in the league at stopping opposing QB (1,099 yards and 8 TD), what’s not to like about the upside of Drew Brees? He hasn’t been the dominant player we’ve come to expect, but fire him up as a low-end QB1.
- Don’t get overly excited about the matchup of Kirk Cousins against the Seahawks. Seattle’s struggled stopping QB on the ground (119 yards, 3 TD), and that’s not Cousins’ game. Throw in 6 TD vs. 6 INT for the veteran, and even with the bye weeks starting he’s more of a QB2.
- There were big things expected from Philip Rivers with the move to Indianapolis, but he hasn’t thrived thus far with just 4 TD over the first four weeks. Things get easier this week, with a matchup against the Browns, so don’t give up on him quite yet.
- If the Giants’ offense is ever going to get right, a matchup against the Cowboys should be the perfect spot to do it. Time will tell, but if you need a QB2 Daniel Jones is well worth the gamble.

1/5 PPR Thinking of dropping Ertz or Fant for Tonyan. What do you think? If drop, Who?
I def. wouldn’t drop Ertz. Fant isn’t nuts, though
Or Dallas TE
What’s up Professor? Would you feel comfortable starting CeeDee Lamb over DJ Moore for this week and maybe longer till Moore turns it around? League is PPR Thanks man.
Not craziest thought
Hi Prof,
I have burrow and brady. Last week with Godwin being out, I sat Brady and he had a monster game. This week, Godwin is out again and Evans is questionable. What I’m thinking is…if Evans starts, I roll with Brady. If Evans sits, I bench Brady and go with burrow.
That make sense? Or is burrow’s matchup so much better that I should just roll with him?
Thanks!
I’d actually go with Burrow regardless, but it’s close
Full PPR Week 6 QB issue ( yes I am thinking ahead) Drop Brady vs GB for Herbert vs NYJ? Week 6 bye for Wilson need replacement. And ROS too?
That’s surprisingly not crazy!
Prof, I need to pick up a QB off the waiver this week just in case Josh Allen does not play. My choices are Cousins, D. Jones, or Garoppolo. I am leaning Cousins because I think the three of them are all very similar for his week, but Cousins is the only one of the three with a different bye week than Allen, so I could roster him to cover week 11 as well. Thoughts?
Second question, related to the first: Who would you drop to make room for my second QB? Thinking either Duke Johnson or Preston Williams. Its a full point PPR league. Both players are deep on my bench.
Thanks Prof!
I’d probablt drop Johnson, but that depends on your depth there.
As for the QB, I’d lean Jones but it’s a complete coinflip with Cousins so go with your gut
Hey there Prof.
How much of a difference between Burrow and Ryan in starting one of them?
And as for RBs will you pick 3: Jacobs, D. Johnson, Mike Davis, J. Jackson, or Henry (do I even risk that)
RB – Davis / Jacobs / Henry (I don’t like the other two enough, tough it’s a huge risk obviously)
As for the QB, I’d go Ryan but it’s not nuts to go Burrow
