Week 7 Rankings (2020): Top 25 Quarterbacks

The bye weeks cost fantasy owners Lamar Jackson this week, and with Dak Prescott lost for the season that’s a pair of top names unavailable to fantasy owners. That said there are a pair of rookies emerging as viable QB1 each week, to go along with the normal group of top options. Who should we trust this week? Who should we ignore? Let’s take a look:

Thoughts:

• Aaron Rodgers is coming off a disastrous outing against Tampa Bay, completing less than 50% of his passes (16-for-25) for 160 yards, 0 TD and 2 INT. Considering he entered the day with 13 TD vs. 0 INT, it’s easy to say this was likely just a small blip on the radar. Taking on the Houston Texans, who have allowed 13 TD vs. 1 INT, there’s a very good chance that he rebounds strong.
• The Atlanta Falcons have allowed the most points per week to opposing quarterbacks, including 18 TD and 2,071 yards. That should open the door for a big day for Matthew Stafford, who has thrown for less than 250 yards in three of his past four games. The lack of production is going to suppress his ranking a bit, but Stafford is still a viable QB1 given the matchup.
• In the four games Julio Jones has played this season Matt Ryan has thrown for at least 285 yards in each of them, with 11 TD vs. 2 INT. In contrast he’s been terrible in the games without Jones, totaling 464 yards, 1 TD and 2 INT. With Jones back and healthy, Ryan needs to be pushed up the rankings.
• Joe Burrow has had some rookie growing pains, as you’d expect, but he’s thrown for 300+ yards in four of his past five games. Included in that was one against the Browns (316 yards and 3 TD), who he’ll square off with once again this week. That matchup is going to push him into the low-end QB1 spectrum.
• Jared Goff, Ryan Tannehill and Drew Brees all have potential to produce, but given difficult matchups they are nothing more than QB2 this week. In other words they aren’t unusable, but you need to be cautious (with Tannehill being the best choice of the trio).
